Dragon's blood resin
The red resin of Amazonian trees of the genus Croton, known in Brazil as sangue de dragão. Collected from living trees by a traditional riverside community and supplied to companies as a raw material.
What is dragon's blood?
Dragon's blood is the dark red sap of trees of the genus Croton, native to the Amazon. It takes its name from its colour. It is a raw material long known to, and traditionally used by, the peoples of the forest. We supply it to cosmetic, pharmaceutical and natural-ingredient companies as an ingredient.
Where does it come from, and how is it collected?
From the region of Colniza in northwestern Mato Grosso, where it is collected by a traditional riverside community that works in partnership with the Carvalho Beans cooperative. The resin is taken from living trees, which stay standing in the forest.

Why buy it standing-forest?
The resin only has commercial value while the tree is alive. Every buyer of it helps make keeping the forest standing a source of income for the people who live there, which is also one of the cooperative’s statutory objectives.
